Comments

  • First to Fifth:

    Skullcrusher Mountain
    Re Your Brains
    Betty and Me
    Furry Old Lobster
    Chiron Beta Prime
  • I reject your attempts to limit me to just five! :)

I also could not at all order these from 'best' to 'worst', so I just put them in the order they show up on the songs page.

    Chiron Beta Prime
    Re Your Brains
    When I'm 25 or 64
    The Future Soon
    Skullcrusher Mountain
    Mandelbrot Set
    First of May
    Bills, Bills, Bills
  • I would say that Bills, Bills, Bills is one of those songs you get stuck in your head, and you have to hear it once or twice just to get it out of your head. Good Song though. I would rank them (my Most Played songs in iTunes by JoCo):
    Dance, Soterios Johnson, Dance
    Furry Old Lobster
    Screwed
    Chiron Beta Prime
    I Feel Fantastic
    Mandelbrot Set
  • Mandelbrot Set (my favorite, the rest are just listed randomly)
    The Future Soon
    I Feel Fantastic
    Shop Vac
    You Could Be Her

I tend to like the SciFi ones that tell a narative story. For this reason, I select, in no particular order:
    Skullcrusher Mountain
    Future Soon
    Re: Your Brains
    Chrion Beta Prime
    Todd the T1000
    Better
    Mandelbrot Set

However, I'm also a huge fan of:
    Curl
    Gambler's Prayer
    First of May
    I Hate California
    Brand New Sucker
    Someone is Crazy
    Over There

Sorry, I know it wasn't "Pick your favorite 14 songs", and this isn't to say that I don't like all of the songs that aren't on this list. I like most of them, too. But I had to pick only five, so those were my fourteen.
  • Eric said: "I tend to like the SciFi ones that tell a narative story."

I have to agree, Sci-fi stories are great. 3 of my 5 are that, but JoCo does some great and very original songs that aren't too.

And as for listing 14, I'll let you off. I did say it was going to be hard to do. And 14 is quite close to 5 when you consider how many awesome songs there are.
  • God, I love them all! I have only heard the songs on his 2 CDs so far, but my faves are (in no particular order)

    The Future Soon
    First of May
    De-Evolving
    Millionaire Girlfriend
    Mandelbrot Set
    Ikea

But how could I leave out:

    I'm a Mason Now
    Kenesaw Mountain Landis

    OK, I'll stop now...
  • I have to edit my above post to include "When You Go." Wonderful addition to his repertoire.
  • I like a lot of lyrical things that make you blink.

Chiron beta prime (first exposure to JoCo, found it funny as a distress call disguised as a christmas Jingle / family news letter.

I Feel Fantastic (Steak always tastes better when I take my steak tastes better pills)

Skullcrusher Mountain (Half pony half monkey monster says it all)

Betty and Me (Betty was pretty firm it had to be human, I thought we should give him wings and a prehensile tail so he could join the circust to make money and be friends with clowns, Bettty says that's just stupid)

Bills, Bills, Bills (just something catchy to this tune)
  • My top five (this week):
    Code Monkey (I'm a programmer)
    The Future Soon
    Mandelbrot Set
    Brookline
    When You Go
  • Definately:
Code Monkey - I'm in love with code monkey :)

I like the others, but won't listen to them until I've heard code monkey a couple of times first.
  • Re Your Brains
    Talk with George
    Skullcrusher Mountain
    Code Monkey
    My Monkey
  • Dance, Soterios Johnson, Dance
    Someone is Crazy
    When You Go
    Mandelbrot Set
    I'm Having a Party
  • Skullcrusher Mountain
    Mandelbrot Set
    Code Monkey
    Future Soon
    A Talk With George
  • My top 5 songs have to be (in order! Yay!):

    Someone Is Crazy
    Chiron Beta Prime
    Furry Old Lobster
The Presidents (with the marching band)
    Shop Vac
  • Re: Your Brains
    Code Monkey
    Skullcrusher Mountain
    Chiron Beta Prime
    Shop Vac
  • You Could Be Her
    Don't Talk To Strangers
    A Talk with George
    First of May
    Take Care of Me
  • Code Monkey - this song is almost my biography (my wife was even the receptionist where we work).

That Spells DNA - This scratches both the science geek and the music nerd at the same time, when in the sequence of characters being read, the music actually changes meter and has an unexpected cord progression to audially simulate insertion mutations and gene crossovers.

The Future Soon - creative story from the viewpoint of a high school aged geek... and EVERYONE was that high-school aged geek at some point.

Mangelbrot Set - kinda like the song about the twin prime conjecture, but actually worth listening to (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/sciencenow/3302/02.html)

Ikea - The rhymes in this song are just genius - "Thor with Store", "Norsemen" and "Divorced men"? I always found it creepy the way Ikea 'names' all their furniture, and this song embraces that with things like "Billy the bookcase says hello"...

Those are the songs I want Jonathan to play for me at my next birthday party.
  • Re: Your Brains
    Code Monkey
    I Feel Fantastic
    First of May
    Flickr
    Mandelbrot Set
  • Gambler's Prayer
    Millionaire Girlfriend
    Skullcrusher Mountain
    Shop Vac
    When You Go

And a big big honorable mention goes to:
    Tom Cruise Crazy
  • Code Monkey
    I Feel Fantastic
    Skullcrusher Mountain
    Flickr
    Re Your Brains
  • Let's see what the iTunes playlist says

    Re: Your Brains
    Tom Cruise Crazy
    Skullcrusher Mountain
    When You Go
    Chiron Beta Prime

    Judge's Choice: Gambler's Prayer
  • Currenty:

I Feel Fantastic: It's impossible for me not to sing along to chorus of this song.

Mandelbrot Set: I have nothing to say except wow.

First of May: I appreciate that his use of one of the English languages most favoured obscenities, is so casual and totally not stressed. The same way I hear it used in everyday conversation now :D That and the song cracks me up.

When You Go: Is a simply gorgeous piece, and undeniably catchy.

RE: Your Brains: I will own that shirt, and I will make EVERYONE hear this song.
  • In no particular order (but I do so love a Top Five of any kind):

    - Mandelbrot Set (for sheer lyrical cunning)
    - Code Monkey (if this isn't an IT anthem already, it will be - I know a good half dozen people aready who sing this under their breath on their way to work, myself included)
    - The Presidents (I don't like to make political statements!)
    - Re Your Brains (for deadpan comedic genius - and the zombie struggling to keep time in the chorus)
    - Drive (dammit, is there anything this man cannot do well?)
  • Code Monkey
    Future Soon
    Re Your Brains
    SkyMall
    Till the Money comes.

Man, this was a really hard list to do. Maybe if it was top... 85 or so. That would be easier.
  • Code Monkey
    Re Your Brains
    Creepy Doll (woo!)
    Mandelbrot Set
    Skullcrusher Mountain

But these are just off the top of my head.
  • The songs that I use to introduce new people to JoCo are in this order
    1. Skullcrusher Mountain
    2. RE: Your Brains.
    3. The Future Soon
    4. When you go.
    5. Baby Got Back. The classic remake done better than the original could ever hope to be and much more satisfying than Richards Cheesy version.
  • Future Soon- reminds me of my childhood
Re Your Brains-because I have the shirt?...not reall, I just love it.
Dance, Soterios Johnson, Dance - because I have no idea who Mr. Johnson is, my mental image of this song is of Stephen Colbert. :|
Someone is Crazy- Applies to so many situations, but especially my sister
When You Go - makes me go teary-eyed. and smile. yeah, it's fantastic, and my favorite
  • Wow, Big Bad World One needs to go up here. I just got a chance to listen to it today. Simply amazing.
  • That is the problem with this, a new song comes out, and suddenly your list is wrong....Code Monkey is my favourite now, but it wasn't out when i started this thread.
