Quantum Leap? A Note from The Management

edited November 2014 in JoCo Cruise
Many of you have probably seen the tweets, pictures, and vines we sent last week from Royal Caribbean’s new ship, Quantum of the Seas. There's naturally been some speculation about what it might mean for JoCo Cruise, or for Macaroni and Cruise, our new family-oriented event.

As the JoCo Cruise continues to grow, and as we expand into new ventures (like Macaroni and Cruise), it's important for us to continue to strengthen our relationship with the cruise lines and stay on top of what’s going on in the cruise industry. Which is why we were thrilled to be invited on one of last week's short "pre-inaugural" cruises for RCI’s Quantum, during which they showcased the ship's many new features—state-of-the-art design, lots of new technology intended to improve the cruise experience, and much more.* RCI also plans to eventually incorporate many of these improvements into the rest of their fleet; so it was helpful to see what might lie on the horizon for us. And truly, the ship had some very cool stuff.

What we’re saying is, we went on this free cruise FOR YOU. It was hard work, and we are exhausted from all the drink ordering we did in the robot bar. Actually, while on board, we also had a number of meetings and discussions** with various RCI department mucky-mucks regarding our experience with them so far, and our plans for the future—and most of all for the upcoming JoCo Cruise. You know: lots of business-y stuff. But we also discussed many specific items, large and small, based on your feedback—including, several of you will be happy to note, the Dreaded Cheese Plate (we’ll see what we can do).

All this being said, and as neat and fun as the Quantum was, it's unlikely that JoCo Cruise (or Macaroni and Cruise) will go to the Quantum anytime soon, mostly because of pricing; as the New Ship, the Quantum will have the highest demand, and therefore is likely to be the most expensive. There are also some layout changes that would require us to radically change the way we run JoCo Cruise events and activities in order for it to function well on a Quantum-class ship.

All this is just to say, we will always work tirelessly to attend all available free cruises FOR YOU. But seriously, we here in the Home Office think JoCo Cruise 2015 is going to be the best one yet, and we’re thrilled to be launching the inaugural Macaroni and Cruise as well this year. And of course, more details on both are coming...Soon™.

*We also got to ride in the Quantum's skydiving simulation wind tunnel. Yes, it was super-fun; we're having one installed in each of our homes.

** We won't lie: occasionally these meetings involved fruity drinks. We were on a cruise, after all.
