"A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again"

edited December 2010 in JoCo Cruise
If you're feeling particularly literary this week, you might enjoy reading the late, great David Foster Wallace's essay on the "nearly lethal luxury" of cruising, complete with his usual trenchant humor, cynicism, general despair, and acute observations on the unique human activity that is the "Seven Night Carribean (7NC) Luxury Cruise." You can find the original Harpers article here: http://www.harpers.org/media/pdf/dfw/HarpersMagazine-1996-01-0007859.pdf -- and there's also a great book by the same name (which includes many other essays, on topics ranging from tennis to the Illinois State Fair). Our JoCo Cruise, of course, will be completely different, on account of only being six nights. But still, it's a great read.

  • Heh, I had a friend who came away with the same view. She said she now knew what it was like for veal. Packed into a small box and continually stuffed with food.
